In observance of the Year of the Family, the Archdiocese of Chicago has developed a series of five short videos to help parish communities and individual families to understand the family as a domestic church. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, “The Christian home is the place where children receive the first proclamation of the faith. For this reason the family home is rightly called ‘the domestic church,’ a community of grace and prayer, a school of human virtues and of Christian charity” (CCC, 1666). In this way, families can be true experiences of church. Each video takes up a particular aspect of church life and explains how it comes alive in families: proclamation of the word, celebration of the sacraments, prayer together and fulfilling the mission to serve, witness and foster vocations.
